The Impressionism movement began in France in the 19th century(1801-1900s) paintings from impressionists would use small, soft and thin brushstrokes. impressionism had open an uncommon optical angles, and the use of colors that illustrates light changes. It's like you can see in a picture how the lights show as time is going by, and there is a sense of movement. Colors was more significant than lines, and the various colors painted on the canvas. Impressionists paintings is like an early photograph, because it captures that movement. For example; This is painting named "Young woman Painting"(1883) By Berthe Moriso. Moriso has been exploring Impressionism between 1874 and 1886. She would paint her artwork outdoors and would rapidly brushstroke her canvas by using watercolors and pastels. When you look at this picture up close, you can see the swift strokes of the painting, and the amount of diverse colors is being mix together. When you step back, you'll see a young woman, sitting and knitting. You would be able to tell that the young lady is sitting outside because, of the different shades of grass. Basically she could be sitting in a garden or a park. This artwork is like an a early photo that was taken with a camera. The artist captured the exact moment, that will stay forever.
Post impressionism is pretty much the same as impressionism such as the use of bright colors, heavy paints, striking brushstrokes, etc. The differences though is the strenuous use of shapes that are geometric, and use of colors that are unorthodox. impressionists would work on their artwork indoors, instead of outdoors. Impressionists would investigate different ways to paint a picture, without the concern of the appearance of an object. Another difference between impressionism and post impressionism is that post impressionism is more time-consuming, and captures the intense movement. For example; This is a painting named " Corridor In The Aslyum"(1889) by Vincent Van Gogh. This painting was painted by the artist himself when he was at an asylum for twelve months tillthe near end of his life. Gogh sent the colorful picture to his brother. The artist is not showing just the image of the asylum, he's expressing emotions in the painting by using various colors. symbolizes an emotion. As you can see there's majority of red, yellow, white, and a hint of blue.it's like all of Gogh's feelings were put into this painting and sent as a message to his sibling.
