Renaissance started in Florence, Italy around the years 1350 to 1400.  Renaissance also started at the ending of the middle ages. During those years inventions were being invented, such as the printing press, exploring new land Along with the start of philosophy, literature and art of  philosophy, literature and art. The southern part of Europe was influenced with the writings from the Greece and Roman. Painters and sculptors focused more on emotion, and the humanistic on their work. Before the influence From the Greece and Roman, there were works of art that was flat, shows no feeling in the face or body.  Throughout the rebirth period,Many of the artworks had space, more colors, different perspectives and illustrate the christian bible. For example; This Painting called "The Last Supper" was made by an artist named Leonardo Da Vinci. he painting is about Jesus telling his fellow followers that somebody at this table will betray him. You can tell how each man their own individual identity because of the style of their hair, clothing, and expression of their face. The expression on their face shows shock, and horror. The painting also has one-point linear perspective. That means from behind Jesus head there's a fade point. The walls follow the window to show a depth.

The Baroque period began in the 1600s. Paintings  and sculptures would be more dramatic, and a real strong sense of light and dark. Body and or face expressions would be more theatrical. This is a painting called "Taking of Christ." by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. As you look at the picture you can see, how the light and dark work together. It's like the light is shinning and a dark room. The dark makes the individual become more alive. It's like you can hear the men shouting, and feel their movement all at once.
