Kara Walker was born November 26, 1969, at Stockton, California. her artworks are focus on race, gender, violence, sexuality, and identity. She is best known for her room-size of black cut-paper silhouettes, that's glue to the walls. Most of the silhouettes are taken back to the Victorian time which was (1837-1901) It was basically showing the pasts in history and during the slavery years nothing else.Walker wanted to show the history in her artworks by cutting out the shadow of a person, and giving a background that goes well with the cut-out paper. There is the use of projected light to make a background for the silhouettes. The artist would use depth and space to make a person feels they are part of the story that is being told.Walker wanted the work to be based off the unexpected time where a heroine saves the day, but at the same time Walker wants to kill the heroine herself.

I really like these pictures. Even if they're a bit dark and twisted.
ReplyDeletei really like the way the artist is telling a story with these pictures with no color but symbolism
ReplyDeleteInteresting artist, I liked how Kara has chosen silhouettes as her art style.
